A Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vehicle from Assault Craft Unit Two (ACU-2) stationed at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Va., departs from the well deck of the Amphibious Assault Ship USS Bataan (LHD-5) on August 31, 2005. LCU 1656 is loaded with sand bags, water, a small flat bottom boat, 300 lifejackets, a HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), and enough supplies to last 10 days as part of the relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina hit the Southern Gulf Coast States. The USS Bataan is off the coast of Louisiana.
