El Gibibyte está muy relacionado con el [[Gigabyte]], que se suele usar como un sinónimo, aunque en realidad tienen valores muy diferentes:
* Gibibyte = 1 073 741 824 = 2<sup>30</sup> [[Byte|bytes]].
* [[Gigabyte]] = 1 000 000 000 = 10<sup>3</sup> [[Byte|bytes]].
El uso de estos términos intenta disipar una confusión muy común en torno a los medios de almacenamiento. (ver [[prefijo binario]])
