A computational model is a mathematical model in the computational sciences that requires extensive computational resources to study the behavior of a complex system by means of computer simulation. The system under study is often a non-linear complex system for which simple and intuitive analytical solutions are not readily available. In the place of deriving a mathematical analytical solution for the problem, experimentation is done with the model by changing the system parameters in the computer, and studying the differences in the result of the experiments. Theories of model operation can be derived from these computational experiments.
Examples of common computational models its models of weather forecasting, Earth Simulator models, flight simulator models, molecular protein models, neural network models.
