Aimee Mann

Aimee Mann (Richmond, Virginia, Estados Unidos, 8 de septiembre de 1960) es una cantautora estadounidense. Su trabajo con el productor Jon Brion en la década de 1990 influyó en el rock alternativo estadounidense y se destaca por sus letras sardónicas y literarias sobre temas oscuros.[1]​[2]​

Trayectoria editar

Aimee Mann en el transcurso de cuatro décadas, ha lanzado más de una docena de álbumes como solista y con otros músicos. Después de liderar en los 80 el grupo Til Tuesday y lograr éxitos mundiales como Voices Carry y Coming Up Close (1985), comenzó una carrera como cantautora con su primer disco en solitario,[3]​ titulado Whatever (1993). Uno de sus momentos de mayor popularidad fue cuando sus canciones fueron elegidas para la banda sonora de la película de Paul Thomas Anderson: Magnolia, que fue nominada a un Oscar, un Globo de Oro y tres Grammys. En 1987 colaboró con Rush en la canción Time stand still, del álbum Hold Your Fire.[4]​[5]​[6]​

Después de que Geffen se negara a lanzar su tercer álbum, Bachelor No. 2, Aimee Mann lo autoeditó bajo su propio sello, SuperEgo Records en 2000.[7]​[8]​ Recibió fuertes ventas y elogios de la crítica, lo que la estableció como una artista de carrera que podría trabajar fuera de las grandes sistema de etiquetas.[9]​ Aimee Mann ha lanzado siete álbumes en solitario desde entonces.[10]​

En 2014, lanzó un álbum con Ted Leo como The Both.[11]​ Ha aparecido en películas y series de televisión como The Big Lebowski, Steven Universe, The West Wing y Portlandia.[12]​ Aimee Mann prestó su voz al personaje de "Opal" en un capítulo de la serie animada Steven Universe de Cartoon Network. Y también prestó su voz al personaje de "Sierna del Río" en un capítulo de la serie animada Summer Camp Island.

Tiene dos premios Grammy, incluido el de Mejor Álbum Folclórico por Enfermedad Mental (2017) y la NPR la nombró una de las diez mejores compositoras vivas en 2006.

Influencias editar

Aimee Mann cito como artistas a los que admira a Leonard Cohen, Stephen Sondheim, Fiona Apple y Jimmy Webb,[13]​ la banda de Steely Dan era el único grupo que amo al 100%, sin reservas.[14]​

El artista que más le marcó a una edad temprana fue Elton John "Su melodía, los acordes, su forma de cantar... Había algo en su ADN de la estructura melódica que recogí más tarde y que me influyó".[15]​ Los estándares del Great American Songbook y el ragtime tenían "resonancia" para ella.
