Una 32X conectada al Sega Genesis

El 32X es un periférico para la consola de videojuegos Sega Genesis. Con el nombre en código «Proyect Mars»,[1]​ fue diseñado para expandir el poder del Genesis y servir como remanente hasta el lanzamiento del Sega Saturn.[2]​ Independientemente del Genesis, el 32X usaba sus propios cartuchos ROM y tenía su propia biblioteca de juegos, así como dos chips de unidad central de procesamiento de 32 bits y un procesador de gráficos 3D.[1]​ A pesar de estos cambios, la consola no logró atraer a los desarrolladores y consumidores, ya que se había anunciado el lanzamiento de Sega Saturn el próximo año.[1]​ En parte debido a esto, y también para apresurar el lanzamiento del 32X al mercado antes de la temporada navideña de 1994, el 32X adolecía de una pobre biblioteca de títulos, incluidos los ports de Genesis con mejoras en la cantidad de colores que aparecían en la pantalla.[2]​ Lanzado originalmente a US$159, Sega bajó el precio a US$99 en sólo unos meses y finalmente liquidó el inventario restante a US$19,95.[1]​ Se vendieron 800 000 unidades en todo el mundo.[3]​

Se produjeron 40 juegos en todo el mundo, incluidos seis que requirieron los complementos 32X y Sega CD, y diez que solo se lanzaron en Norteamérica, así como solo uno lanzado exclusivamente para Brasil. Los juegos que se anunciaron o informaron que estaban en desarrollo para 32X, pero que nunca se lanzaron, figuran en la lista de juegos 32X cancelados.
