George Kennedy

George Harris Kennedy Jr. (Nueva York, 18 de febrero de 1925-Boise, Idaho, 28 de febrero de 2016)​ fue un actor estadounidense, ganador de un Premio Óscar al mejor actor de reparto en 1967 por La leyenda del indomable y recordado por su participación como secundario en conocidas películas del Oeste y de humor, y también series de televisión.

Carrera

Debutó en el cine con un pequeño papel en Espartaco, de Stanley Kubrick. Participó también en Canción de cuna para un cadáver y en Charada (1963), filme de intriga con Cary Grant y Audrey Hepburn. En 1964 interpretó un personaje torpe en la serie Bonanza. En 1967 interpretó el papel del mayor Max Ambruster en la película bélica Los doce del patibulo.

Ganó el Óscar al mejor actor de reparto en 1968 por La leyenda del indomable (1969), y luego trabajó en Un hombre impone la ley y Aeropuerto 75, como oponente de Paul Newman. En esos años participó en filmes como Bandolero! (con James Stewart, Dean Martin y Raquel Welch) y El estrangulador de Boston, protagonizado por Tony Curtis.

George Kennedy debió gran parte de su fama al papel de Joe Patroni en la película Aeropuerto, así como en varias de sus secuelas. También participó en otra película del género de catástrofes, Terremoto, en 1974; así como en la superproducción repleta de estrellas Muerte en el Nilo. Protagonizó además la serie policíaca de televisión The Blue Knight, e intervino en dos filmes junto a Clint Eastwood: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot y el thriller The Eiger Sanction, en el que interpretó al instructor de montañismo Ben Bowman.

En los años 80 actuó en la afamada serie Dallas y en la película erótica Bolero, con Bo Derek y Ana Obregón. En esa misma década fue elegido para interpretar el papel del capitán Ed Hockens (en lugar de Alan North, quien era el actor encargado de interpretar al personaje en la serie Police Squad) junto con Leslie Nielsen en los filmes The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear y The Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult. También participó en otros filmes, de los que el más destacado es Creepshow 2, dirigido por Michael Gornick sobre un guion de George A. Romero y Stephen King.

En 2002 se le diagnosticó una apnea, por lo que tuvo que someterse a una dura operación tras los daños que le causó a su corazón.

Sus últimos papeles fueron (como actor de reparto) en Llamando a las puertas del cielo (2005), Sands of Oblivion (2007), The Man who Came Back (2008) y The Gambler (2014).

El 28 de febrero de 2016 falleció debido a una enfermedad coronaria en Boise, Idaho, 10 días después de su cumpleaños número 91.
