English: A 4.5 inch shell is captured in flight as Type 23 frigate HMS Northumberland conducts a gunnery exercise. HMS Northumberland took the opportunity to test out her 4.5 inch gun recently. The ship's mission was part of a multi-national effort to disrupt terrorist and organised crime smuggling routes that provide both supplies and finances to terrorist organisations. This involves the vessel operating for extended periods in the harsh and uncomfortable environment of the Middle East.
