Está situada unos 79[[km]] al este de la [[Península Ibérica]], frente a [[Denia (Alicante)|Denia]], 140 [[km]] al suroeste de la isla de [[Mallorca]], y al norte de [[Formentera]], con unas coordenadas {{coor d|38.98|N|1.43|E|}}. Su capital es [[Ibiza (ciudad)|Ibiza]], (Eivissa, en catalán) y las dos poblaciones más importantes, además de la capital, son [[San Antonio Abad]] y [[Santa Eulalia del Río]] y el mayor municipio, [[San José (Baleares)|San José]].
Las islas de Ibiza y [[Formentera]] reciben el nombre de ''[[Islas Pitiusas]]'', forman un archipiélago diferente al integrado por Mallorca y Menorca, aunque hoy en día se hable de Archipiélago Balear y formen parte de la misma unidad administrativa. Ocupa una superficie de 570 km² y por ella discurre un solo río, el de [[Santa Eulalia del Río]], único río de Baleares, que desde hace bastantes años permanece seco por la excesiva explotación de los [[agua subterránea|recursos acuíferos]] de la isla.
