Después de la derrota de los Imperios centrales, el Imperio otomano (gravemente socavado por la [[Rebelión Árabe]] apoyada por Gran Bretaña) se desplomó en el desorden. El primer Presidente de la República de [[Turquía]], [[Kemal Atatürk]], abolió el [[sultanato]] en [[1922]], dentro de su proceso de reformas y modernización y declaró la renuncia a la idea imperial, lo que constituyó de hecho el fin del Imperio Otomano.
