5.º Parlamento de Malasia
La quinta legislatura del Parlamento de Malasia comenzó el 31 de julio de 1978 cuando, tras realizarse elecciones federales, se constituyó el Dewan Rakyat (Cámara de Representantes). Sostuvo al segundo gobierno de Hussein Onn y, tras la dimisión de Hussein el 16 de julio de 1981, al primer gobierno de Mahathir Mohamad. Al igual que todas las legislaturas entre 1974 y 2008, contó con una mayoría absoluta de dos tercios de la coalición Barisan Nasional (Frente Nacional). El principal partido de la oposición fue el Partido de Acción Democrática (DAP), con Lim Kit Siang como líder parlamentario. Se disolvió anticipadamente el 29 de marzo de 1982 para convocar a nuevas elecciones, a fin de renovar y fortalecer el mandato de Mahathir.
