En sus orígenes la mayoría de las construcciones eran de madera, siguiendo estilos de construcción inspirados en diseños alpinos y europeos, pero también utilizados en el sur de Chile ya que los primeros hombres blancos que se asentaron en el lugar eran inmigrantes de origen alemán, en algunos casos previamente asentados en [[Chile]].
