No existen testimonios arqueológicos fiables que permitan certificar la existencia histórica del Rey Arturo.<ref name ="historicity" /> A finales del siglo XII, los monjes de [[Abadía de Glastonbury|Glastonbury]] hallaron supuestamente en una tumba una cruz con una inscripción latina que identificaba a los allí inhumados como Arturo y su esposa, Ginebra.
