# Los sonidos denominados [[consonante enfática|enfáticos]] aparecen en casi todas las lenguas semíticas, y en la mayoría de lenguas afroasiáticas. Para el protosemítico se reconstruye el enfático como glotalización, aunque en las modernas lenguas semíticas estas se realizan faringalizadas (árabe, arameo) o glotalizadas (lenguas semíticas de Etiopía, modernos sudarábigo).
