Karloff en La novia de Frankenstein

Boris Karloff (1887-1969) fue un actor inglés. Se hizo conocido por su papel del monstruo de Frankenstein en Frankenstein de 1931 (su película número 82), lo que le llevó a una larga carrera en cine, radio y televisión.

Nacido como William Henry Pratt en Inglaterra,[1]​ emigró a Canadá en 1909 cuando era joven y finalmente se unió a una compañía de gira canadiense, adoptando el nombre artístico de Boris Karloff. En 1919, Karloff se mudó a Hollywood,[1]​ donde encontró trabajo regular como extra en Universal Studios. Aunque apareció en numerosas películas mudas, los primeros papeles importantes de Karloff fueron en The Criminal Code (1931) de Howard Hawks y Five Star Final (1931) de Mervyn LeRoy. Mientras filmaba Graft, el director James Whale convenció a Karloff para que interpretara al monstruo de Frankenstein en Frankenstein, lo que lo llevó a convertirse en una superestrella de la noche a la mañana. Después de Frankenstein y protagonizando varias películas de alto perfil como La novia de Frankenstein (1935)[2]​ y La momia (1932), Karloff pasó el resto de la década de 1930 trabajando a un ritmo increíble, pero involucrándose progresivamente en películas de menor presupuesto. En la década de 1940, comenzó a ser estereotipado con el papel de "científico loco". En la década de 1960, Karloff trabajó para Roger Corman en American International Pictures. También realizó películas en Inglaterra, Italia y España. En total, apareció en 174 películas. Su última película estadounidense fue Targets (1968) de Peter Bogdanovich, en la que interpretó a una anciana estrella de cine de terror muy parecida a él.
