La catedral sufrió un incendio que se inició en la tarde del 15 de abril de 2019 en el tejado del edificio y ocasionó daños considerables. La aguja de la catedral y la techumbre se desplomaron y tanto el espacio interior como muchos bienes muebles fueron gravemente dañados.
