We have gone back to the time of Homer to be able to read the first references to this marine animal in his poems. In fact, without going any further, we can see in the Iliad, the Homeric poem par excellence, how the god of the seas, Poseidon, used these seahorses to pull his chariots. Some cars that, by the way, were capable of walking on the surface of the sea. Such was the strength of this marine being that the chariots did not penetrate the depths of the liquid element.[1]

We put marine mythology aside to focus on what this enigmatic being actually holds. And it is that, after drinking from various sources, the description that is repeated the most throughout history, ensures that the appearance it had was what a hybrid between a horse and a fish could have.

editar

To be specific, the tail would be that of a fish, hence it was an animal that came from the seas, and the body,[2]

Is the most famous on the list. The hippocampus is a hybrid creature, whose front half is a horse and the rear half is a fish. This creature appears a lot in the myths and stories of ancient times, especially of Greek origin, as they were servants of the god Poseidon and pulled his chariot, this can be seen in the writings of the Greek Homer, for this they became a symbol of this God. In more modern myths, many fishermen and sailors who unfortunately found themselves in shipwreck situations claim to have been saved by these creatures.[3]
