La temporada 1937-38 fue la 63ª del fútbol competitivo en Inglaterra. Esta temporada fue la 46ª en que se jugó la Football League, competencia que se convertiría en la más importante hasta la temporada 1992-93, en la cual entraría en vigor la FA Premier League que desplazó a la Football League al segundo lugar de importancia en Inglaterra.

Selección nacional

La selección nacional de Inglaterra tuvo una pobre temporada en la que terminó tercera en el British Home Championship de 1938 después de solo haber conseguido una victoria contra Irlanda entre las derrotas contra Escocia y Gales. Una gira por el centro de Europa fue más exitosa ya que Inglaterra logró derrotar a Alemania frente a Adolf Hitler y Josef Goebbels en Berlín y derrotando también a Francia en París. Sin embargo, en medio de estas dos victorias tuvo otra derrota contra Suiza. La gira fue considerada muy controversial debido a que los jugadores recibieron instrucciones de los líderes alemanes de hacer el saludo nazi durante la ceremonia de los himnos realizada antes del puntapié inicial del partido en Berlín.
